My roots in sewing and stitching are never far below the surface, in fact, I’ve become like one of those aerial plants with my roots exposed! Although I work in a number of media – I like variety and one media informs another – I always return to fibre!

Calgary Flood 2013 Quilt Completed and Delivered

Tonight I delivered my contribution to the Calgary Flood Quilt project – Holly Hobbie Goes Scrappy! Remember Holly Hobbie?  Late 1970’s early 1980’s?  There’s a story here. A couple of weeks ago I invited a quilting friend in for coffee and chat as she is one of the flood evacuees.  Even now she is not back into her third floor condo.  Although her unit was not damaged all the building support systems were destroyed and need to be replaced.  All the storage lockers had to be cleared and the contents discarded and the...

Enough of this Procrastination! Working on a ‘Grandma Hug Quilt’

Procrastination The act or habit of procrastinating, or putting off or delaying, especially something requiring immediate attention! Back early in the spring I developed a back problem that was aggravated by time at the computer and so decided to take a short holiday.  Big mistake!  It’s been really hard getting back into the rhythm of making regular blog posts.  Lately I’ve been making the most of my time and space (with hubby away) to complete some things on my ‘to do’ list.  I’ve been seriously stash busting...

Fibre Art WIP (Work in Progress)

Today I’m giving you a peek at something – fibre art – I’ve been working on in the background – in addition to researching exhibitions, populating the portfolios on the web site, journals and everyday living!  Because it’s an exhibition piece – I’m not going to provide technique details at this time – that can come later. Check out the photo that I posted earlier.  What do you think? And by the way, a friend of a friend suggests it’s a Foliose lichen – possibly one of the...

A Mystery Quilt – Do I Need to Start Another Project?

Okay!  I’m in rebellion mode today! I have an almost complete website – with some portfolio posts requiring additional attention and more posts to do.  It’s been six weeks or more of  many long days of work.  I should be working on that! I could be doing more hand stitching on my ‘exhibition’ piece that is still under construction and I have two more exhibition piece commitments to go… There is a box of UFO’s that I promised myself  I would tackle this winter… I’ve got three journal...

Overcoming Creative Block and a Lesson Learned!

I’m finally over my creative block – my fear of beginning .  I’ve got two potential exhibition pieces planned and deadlines looming and I’ve been finding all sorts of reasons to avoid actually starting! The project I’m focusing on first is based on the photo above taken in an ancient forest in BC in 2011.  It will involve a lot of different techniques and was started in the fall when I experimented with paper cloth. I selected the background fabric before Christmas and managed to join the two into the background...

Up-Cycling Sweatshirts – #2

I’m still limited in my mobility while trying to avoid the coughing that results with physical exertion so, with sweatshirt #1 completed, I moved on to sweatshirt #2.  This time I was inspired by a posting on Pinterest.  The first posting I found was by Rachel Hatch and appears to have been woven with cotton broadcloth strips.  However, when I followed her links to my inspiration it led, via Danielle Schulz, to the original posting at The Forge where ‘jersey’ strips had been used – and instructions provided!  I liked...
