My roots in sewing and stitching are never far below the surface, in fact, I’ve become like one of those aerial plants with my roots exposed! Although I work in a number of media – I like variety and one media informs another – I always return to fibre!

Another peek at the Work in Progress

Work is progressing slowly – and ground to a halt when I received a call from hubby inviting me to join him in Welling AB for the weekend.  He’s been away for two months!  The panels are almost complete, the canopy of leaves is underway, now to tackle the ground underneath!

Fighting Procrastination and an Earlier Than Expected Deadline!

This is what faced me this morning but I kept finding many other chores that needed doing!  Why is a ‘second’ of something so much less appealing and difficult to tackle?  Procrastination – I don’t have time for you today! I am currently working on my first installation piece, tentatively named ‘An Aspen Moment’.  It is designed to be viewed from two sides and will incorporate three layers of sheer fabrics under a canopy of aspen leaves, anchored in sparse fall grasses and the sandy, stony soil of the...

Hand-Dyed Fabric Day

I spent today outdoors having fun in a friend’s garden – not gardening, not just admiring her wonderful magical space, but playing with hand dyeing fabrics.  We use soy resist, ice dyeing, sun printing and a variety of other dye techniques. I’ve washed my hand-dyed fabric pieces since coming home and have a pleasing assortment to work with.  I have a good batik-like resist that I hope to further develop with paint and inks, a number of great ‘sky’ pieces and one lovely black and white from a different type of...

Abstracted – Upcoming Art Show – My Work is Featured!

I’ve just been notified that the LaConner Quilt and Textile Museum has featured my work in promotion of an upcoming art show!  Wow! This is a first for me!  Earlier in the year I posted some ‘in progress information’  (here )but was hesitant to show the finished piece until the upcoming show was announced.  Now here it is! They even posted my detail shot! This was an interesting project as I worked with a partner.  Judi MacLeod from Victoria BC (whom I have yet to meet in person but with whom I share a mutual friend)...

The Alberta Flood Rose Project 2013

The Alberta Flood Rose Project is a fundraiser for the Alberta flood relief work of the Canadian Red Cross as they respond to the recent flooding in Southern Alberta. “The flood waters rose… Albertans rose to the challenge!” Calgary and area artist have been asked to donate a 4 inch by 4 inch piece of original art depicting the Alberta Wild Rose – the provincial flower – in the media of their choice, for inclusion in one of a series of mosaics or collection pieces (100 per collection) that will be assembled and...

A Quilt Full of Hugs from Granny

Finally finished!  A quilt for a special little three year old!  This is the second quilt I have finished in the last month, both single bed size.  I’m temporarily quilted out and looking forward to a visit from my son later in the week so it’s clean-up time but I’m sure I’ll be back at it shortly! Once again I’m ‘stash busting’.  This time I worked with a family of colours in the pinks, mauves and purples.  The little girl who will receive this quilt likes pink but I don’t have a lot in my...
