Starting ‘Plenty of Fish’ Mysytery Quilt

Okay!  I’m in rebellion mode today!

I have an almost complete website – with some portfolio posts requiring additional attention and more posts to do.  It’s been six weeks or more of  many long days of work.  I should be working on that!

I could be doing more hand stitching on my ‘exhibition’ piece that is still under construction and I have two more exhibition piece commitments to go…

There is a box of UFO’s that I promised myself  I would tackle this winter…

I’ve got three journal projects on the go – a daily, a weekly and a monthly and only the weekly one is up to date…

I need to do more research on the ‘exhibition’ topic I am preparing for a discussion group…

But what do I do today?

I sort through my stash for fabrics for a Facebook Mystery quilt project over at Prairie Quilt Mercantile.  The gals from the shop in Aiderie, AB set up a project page at Plenty of Fish Mystery Quilt and a FB friend drew my attention to it, one thing led to another and a desire to reduce my stash led me to sign up a few days ago.  Tomorrow they will be posting the first set of instructions so I knew I needed to get the fabrics selected, washed and pressed today – done!  Of course the first task was to post a picture of the selected fabrics and what fun that has been – lots of feedback!  What do you think of my selection? It was made with a certain little girl in mind!

This winter, I took a course on using social media to promote your artwork. I still have a lot to learn but I’ve already ‘learned’ a lot.  I look at this FB project and think to myself, “What great marketing!”  They have expanded their FB audience by hundreds! Last night they hit the 600 mark, this morning the 700 and they hope to hit the 800 before the project officially starts!  They are building an on-line community of quilters from many countries who are already interacting with each other.  By the time participants post pictures of their progress after each new installment of the instructions, many will become loyal followers of this site. Fascinating!  It’s a new world!

If you are a quilter, why not check out the site via my links and consider joining in.  Maybe you will be the 800th person to join!  It promises to be fun and for me, it will lighten the load in my stash cupboard!
