Card stock, magazine clip art, acrylic paint over gesso and crackle compound

Description

This is week 2 of a weekly art journal based on guides provided by Dale Anne Potter.  All pages of this art journal are based on a tag created from card stock.  For the background, I wanted to experiment and get some light texture.  This was one of the tags that I had roughly covered with gesso earlier and I applied a light coat of crackle compound over the gesso before applying acrylic paint.  Much of this background texture was eventually covered by the magazine clip art but there is enough showing to remind me of the wonderful wood grain/rusty metal texture I achieved with the compound.

The prompt this week was ‘Right now what drives you?  Of course I am driven by my desire to create some structure to my participation in the art world of my community.  Creating is so important to my psyche that I need to define a ‘direction’ for my artwork.  I need to organize my time to make sure that I do create.  I need support from people who understand the struggles and challenge from those already well established in art careers.  Recognition of work is important to men so I need to find ways to exhibit my work and to receive feedback.  To balance this focus, I also am driven to ensure that I allow adequate time and energy to enjoy interacting with my one and only granddaughter.  She is growing up so fast!  I also need to ensure that I find ways to interact with other family members who are now at a distance from me.  And then there is also hubbie….
