Inside the photo journal mini-book

For valentines day I created a handmade mini-book photo journal for my husband.   I decided that, as it would be an ongoing project, I would not use ‘valentine’ colours but went for a classy black and gold combo inspired by some leftover wrapping paper.  The concept for the book was something I found on the Scrap Girls blog and I’ve included the link for the tutorial for my inspiration.

I modified the instructions for my own purposes.  The ‘envelopes’  inside are large enough to take a 3×5″ photo insert – larger than required for the coupon book.  I used two-sided cardstock for the cover and trimmed it with extra paper and yarn embellishments which included some metal buttons from my stash.  Because I found the wrapping paper fragile, I bonded it to printer paper before cutting the shapes to make envelopes.  The tabs on each envelope are circles cut from cardstock and may be used to identify the contents of each envelope at a later date.

The cover was embossed with the initial ‘D’ for Duncan and the closure was a tab and slit hidden behind the surface embellishment on the front of the mini-book.

To make the mini-book personal and ‘special’ for my hubby, it included a 3×5″ photo of him with his granddaughter in each pocket (printed on index card as I didn’t have 3×5″ photo paper).  I think that I will move the photos in the pockets so that we can continue to add to it by gathering each year’s photos into ‘a’ pocket and add the year to the outside of the pocket (probably to the tab) with gold stick on numbers.  I still have to find them in my stash or get some next time I’m out!
