Artist Journal – Perfection Not Allowed!

I have recently started to explore book and journal making. In ‘An Artist’s Journal – Perfection Not Allowed!’ I combined this new artform with my love of textiles and fibre.

Joy Kogawa Book Recreated in Fibre Art

On my first day in West Vancouver we set out to travel the West Vancouver sea wall and to get a feel for the community we would call home for the next week. A friend alerted me to the proximity of the Cherry Blossom 2015 fibre art show and I was watching for the Silk Purse Gallery during my travels. When I arrived at the gallery the organizers were setting up for the feature event of the week: A presentation about a fibre art copy of Joy Kogawa’s book ‘Naomi’s Tree’. Although I am familiar with other books by this...

And Life Got in the Way!

OK!  I’m still here! I really meant to get back to my blog/web site sooner!  Is it really two  months since the last post? It’s been mostly good stuff and creative time.  Thinking back, it was the re-occurrence of a back problem that forced me to take a break in the beginning.  Long hours at the computer entering data for this web site and winter inactivity probably were factors.  Then, I had some really intense creative time….. celebrated a couple of birthdays….hooked up with a couple of new groups here in...

Exploring Tangles

One of the ‘want to do’s’ that has been on my list for some time is exploration of Zen Tangles.  So I decided to combine it with my new attempt at journaling this year.  I’m using the library found at tangles.com to help me get started. As I mentioned yesterday, I have prepared my own tangle tiles from 110 lb card stock that I had on hand.  Unlike the journaling that I plan to do daily, I am not limiting myself to one tangle a day!  This way I just have one side to deal with when I do my journal.  Here are some of my...

52 Sparks for 2013 – Another Journal

I’ve never spent much time with paper-based arts but obviously have had a hankering to do so – I’ve got the supplies on hand!  I’ve decided to allocate a bit of time this year to exploring journals and book-making and have spent the last couple of days ‘playing’.  If I hadn’t, I’d still be procrastinating and who knows when I would get started! Over the past two days I’ve introduced my mini daily journal/tangles venture.  More on the tangles in the next post.  For now I’d like to...

Daily Journal

In the past I’ve been unsuccessful in remaining faithful to my journaling efforts.  I did manage one NaNo challenge!  Part of the problem arises when I ‘get lost’ in the journal pages and spent too much time doing them and part arises from frustration with bound journal pages.  So I’m trying a new approach. I also want to explore ‘tangles’ this year and have prepared to do so by making my own tangle ’tiles’ from 110 lb card stock purchased by the pack at my local office supply store. I needed it...

New Year’s Day 2013 – Choosing my Word for this Year

Posted by on January 1, 2013 in Books & Art Journals, Featured Flag, This And that! | 0 comments

Happy New Year everyone! I was going to wait until tomorrow to do a post but thought better of it.  I need to put down a marker – a marker for a new beginning, a new direction, a new focus. It’s been a pleasant start to the New Year.  A leisurely breakfast, some work on a major fiber art piece neglected for a couple of years because it is too large for my work area in the RV, preparation for some journal work this year, topped off with a swim with my granddaughter and dinner when her parents arrived this evening. Throughout the...
